Toy Recalls 2011 - Fisher Price and Other Preschool and Toddlers Toys

Knowing about toy recalls is important for any parent or gift giver who understands the responsibility of child safety. Many toy recalls are based on potential child injuries, but others come after children fall to the consequences of defective or dangerous toys.

These listed recalled toys are only some of the toys recalled for 2011, in the toddler and preschool age group, being aware of them will help ensure to the toys and gifts you buy this Christmas won;t be any of the ones already recalled.

This recalled Fisher-Price Builders’ Load ‘n Go Wagon has a red plastic body and yellow pull-handle. Along with an assortment of various colored blocks and a toy dog figure.

It has model #P8977 stamped on the bottom. Note: ONLY this model is being recalled, the Builders’ Load ‘n Go Wagon with the green pull-handle IS NOT recalled.

Recall Date: July 28, 2011

This toy was sold through mass merchandisers between June, 2009, and July 2011. Price was approx. $25

Hazard: Laceration hazard - The re-enforced red rear handle can cause lacerations. Seven laceration incidents were reported, with five requiring stitches or surgical glue.

Action: Immediately remove wagon part of toy set from play. Building blocks and toy figure are safe and may still be played with.

Recall issued: August 16, 2011

This Radio Flyer Scoot 'n Zoom riding toy recall is only for model #711, model #711B is redesigned and is not part of this recall. Non-recalled toys also have a yellow UPC sticker underneath the product, along with model #711B, and are not recalled.

Note: see photo below for location of identifying marks and model numbers.

Hazard: Tip and fall hazard - the design of this riding toy can present a tipping fall hazard with young children falling over the front of the toy and receiving facial injuries.

* 10 incidents were reported to the company - six included injuries ranging from loosened or removed teeth, to chin lacerations.

This toy was distributed by the Radio Flyer company to major mass retailers, including Walmart, and sold online at Amazon.com, Target.com and other online toy sellers. This toy was sold between August 2010, and August 2011for about $20.

Recall Date: April, 2011

This recalled toy - Troy the Activity Truck, is blue, red and yellow, and has bead runners on the back with plastic star, circle and heart beads attached, and it has the Infantino name on the front face of the truck. The model numbers, 153-210, 206-110 or 506-110C, are printed on the bottom of the truck.

Note: This toy recall is for ALL Troy the Activity Truck toys, not just the model numbers listed above.

Hazard: Choke hazard - the bead runners can come loose, allowing the plastic shaped beads to become choke hazards for small children. Infantino received 28 reports of the beads coming loose, but only two included reports of children gagging, with no reports of more serious choking or death.

This toy was imported and distributed by Infantino LLC, and sold at Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Meijer, TJ Maxx, Marshalls and other toy stores nationwide. This toy was sold between September 2009, and February 2011. Price approx. $15

Recall Date: March, 2011

This recalled toy - The Parents Busy Time Activity Center was distributed by Manhatten LLC, and sold at specialty and upscale toy stores, and mail-order catalogs between December 2010, and February 2011 for toddler and preschool age children. Price approx. $90

Note: Only models with wooden pegs with date code 400090GC are involved in this recall.

Hazard: Choking hazard - the wooden pegs on the xylophone can come loose and present a choking hazard. The company did not receive any reports of choking or injury, but did receive two reports of the pegs coming loose.

Action/Remedy: Remove toy from play immediately. Consumers can return this toy where purchased for a full refund, or contact Manhattan Group at (800) 541-1345 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or visit the firm's Web site at www.manhattantoy.com for instructions on receiving a replacement item or a full refund.
